‘Linoleum’ is the new single from Cornwall-originating sextet The Golden Dregs. It’s a blistering cut that places distinctive, grainy synth sounds atop driving drums. Vocalist Ben’s voice is a deep, swaggering baritone that contrasts with the shine of the bright harmonies. Like their music, the band’s lyrics are an ironic juxtaposition of dark and light. On the song’s evolution, Ben says: “The key has changed several times over the years, and none of the original lyrics have survived the test of time, but the sentiment has stayed the same - a song of unresolved longing, stasis, inertia. Telegraph Hill is the place that made it all make sense, in 2023 when I was writing this record. It grounded the song in reality, and gave a space for the story to develop. From the top of the hill there’s a clear view of the city skyline, and a reminder that my own narrative is one of millions all happening at once.” The band are releasing their new album, Godspeed, on April 25th, 2025, via Joy Of Life International and End Of The Road Records. -Dan Peeke
